Bell & Ross (Bell & Ross) has a century of history, but in terms of military-inspired products, this is where the brand stands out. Co-founders Bruno Belamich and Carlos Rosillo met while studying at ENSCi at the Paris Institute of Industrial Design. The two entered the watch industry while practicing together with the German watchmaker Helmut Sinn. When they combined their keen functional design vision with his watchmaking vision of similar musical instruments, the spark went out and the flame never went out. Their first real success occurred in 2005, when Belamich painted a work that always represents Bell & Ross: the bold and big BR01. Facts have proved that this is the ideal blackboard for various aviation-inspired works, and the resulting best luxury watches are reminiscent of various musical instruments from radar to compass to altimeter. Today, another instrument receives a green light: a head-up display with Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD.

The instrument that inspired the latest Bell & Ross timepiece is Head-Up Display or HUD. This can be found in both cars and fighters, but Bell & Ross apparently chose the latter as inspiration. HUD is a transparent glass screen that can display information in the pilot’s field of vision.

Its main function is to inform the pilot while keeping the focus on the target ahead without having to look away. It is achieved through augmented reality. The HUD displays digital data on the windshield to warn pilots, including everything from line of sight, altitude or speed to navigation aids (such as flight path vectors), indicating the direction of the jet’s flight.

Designed like a dashboard instrument
For BR 03-92 HUD, Bellamic also drew inspiration from one of his most striking works: the BR01 RedRadar in 2010. RedRadar does not use a pointer, but uses a rotating dial to display the time. Equipped with bright red glass, it produces a cool effect, making the watch look like a flying radar.

The new watch is slightly more complicated: it combines hands and a rotating dial. The dial layout is the same as last year’s BR 03-92 double compass. It must be pointed out that the name refers only to its inspiration; it has no real compass. The dial of the BR 03-92 double compass is divided into three different areas with two colors on two levels. The center area indicates the hour by a disc with a printed green triangle mark. This is reminiscent of “Red Radar” in 2010, although the piece is centered. There is an hour sector around it, and the hour is printed on it. Minutes and seconds are indicated with batons. The minute sector is slightly tilted, creating a sense of depth on the dial.

However, the most striking thing here is obviously green sapphire crystal glass, which gives the watch a very distinctive digital appearance. This effect is obtained by applying green pigment coating technology to the back of the glass. The indicators under the glass are all painted with green Super-LumiNova C3. In addition, you will notice that on the BR 03-92 HUD, the layout of the dial is slightly changed, and a similar instrument design is adopted.

The watch is powered by BR-CAL.302 movement. This is based on the automatic Sellita SW 300-1ébauche, and the carousel has been modified. The movement has a 42-hour power reserve and a small date at four o’clock.

As you know, BR03 is the little brother of the brand icon BR01. The latter has a size of 45mm, while Bell & Ross now has a size of 42mm x 42mm. It is 100m waterproof. With its square matte black ceramic case, this watch is still a real tool on the wrist.

To connect it to the wrist, the watch is equipped with two different straps. The first is matte black rubber, and the other is a large synthetic fiber strap with Velcro, which makes the watch more military.
