Mechanical diver’s watch launches new flagship with Omega’s Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Titanium 6,000m

Compared to the prototype that reached the deepest part of the earth, the resistance is almost nothing…

The Seamaster series was born in 1948 and is Omega’s most enduring series. Born of the Son of Peace, but with military-tested technology, the dive-oriented product line has since become the perfect vehicle for experimentation and innovation, constantly pushing the limits of waterproofing, but also of materials, metallurgy and technology. A few years ago, Omega launched the Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional, an innovative prototype that happens to be a record-breaking watch, water-resistant to 15,000 meters and field-tested to a depth of 10,928 meters. Reached the deepest depths of the ocean on five deep-sea expeditions in the Mariana Trench. Today, the brand presents the commercial version of the watch, a model with few downgrades with a complete steel collection, and this Omega The Seamaster Ocean Ocean Ultra Deep Titanium has an impressive water resistance of 6,000 meters.

Seahorse series, from Lake Biel to the Mariana Trench
The story of the Omega Seamaster collection, which we have covered extensively in a series of videos titled The Seamaster Chronicles (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), begins in 1932, when the Omega Seamaster watch was Born out of what is now considered to be the first watch entirely dedicated to underwater activities. Omega has created a watch with a cork seal and a double case structure that clamps tighter as external pressure increases. The watch was tested at Lake Biel (where Omega is headquartered) and even managed to withstand 13 bar pressure in the laboratory.

In 1948, the first watch named after the seahorse, the CK 2518, was born to commemorate the brand’s 100th anniversary. A strong evolution of the original concept, this watch is dedicated to the general public but relies on technology used by Omega during World War II and its field watch. However, the Seamaster is not entirely dedicated to underwater activities, it is seen as a stronger and more durable classic watch, designed for the city, sea and country, it is a dust and water resistant watch.

While Blancpain, Rolex and others introduced the first true diver’s watches in the early 1950s, Omega fake waited longer to enter the competition, which was done in 1957 with the Seamaster 300 CK 2913 as a professional model trio part of the song. The Seamaster 300 is the real deal, with impressive water resistance, a rotating bezel, a luminous dial, a well-protected case, and importantly, even before saturation diving became known to a wider audience. A helium-resistant watch – ps. It was developed intentionally but still manages to comply with saturation diving.

Then there are the important watches, such as the Ploprof 600, a true beast of a professional diving instrument, now called the first watch to be made of 904L stainless steel – then Uranus steel. This requirement is a must for professional divers to weld underwater, as 304L steel will rust in seconds next to this type of activity. This once again proves Omega’s mastery in the field of metallurgy.

Since then, Omega has quickly become one of the authoritative brands in the diving watch field. Omega’s recent strength is not small, named Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional. Made from 3 examples, the prototype is built with impressive technology shared with the Five Deep Expedition’s submarines, can withstand water up to 15,000 meters, and was field tested in May 2019, when the expedition Reaching the deepest point on Earth, Challenger is deep in the Pacific Ocean – at a depth of 10,928m at the bottom of the Mariana Trench – with pilot Victor Vescovo.

Omega is Omega, and they think it’s a waste not to make at least part of this technology available to the public. As a result, the brand has released one of the most impressive mechanical diving watches on the market, a watch that shares the most technical and visual elements with the aforementioned prototype, a watch capable of resisting 600 bar of pressure (6000 meters depth), New Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Titanium – Because a piece of good news never comes alone, the same technology is also present in the stainless steel collection, purposely named O-MegaSteel. But more will be covered in a later dedicated article.

NEW PLANET OCEAN ULTRA DEEP TITANIUM
As mentioned earlier, this new Omega Seamaster Marine Ultra Deep Titanium is basically a slightly scaled-down version that takes it to the deepest depths of the water. So in this case, most of the design and construction elements have been reused. This makes this titanium edition very special and over-engineered.

The case is made of sandblasted grade 5 titanium. To achieve this level of water resistance – 600 bar at 6000 meters (and adding a 25% safety margin, which means the watch is actually tested to 750 bar) – some concessions had to be made, and some technology had to be invented. Most actually come from innovations in five-deep expedition submarines. The Planet Ocean Ultra Deep is a large watch with a diameter of 45.5mm, a height of 18.12mm and a lug-to-lug distance of 56mm. There is no doubt that it is a tool made for a purpose. Not a commercial watch — or at least, not the kind of business you do in an office. Serious underwater business maybe… The case is also built around the design of a record watch, with most of the shape and style cues like built-in Manta lugs and a streamlined asymmetrical case.

The case is made of sandblasted grade 5 titanium – case, case back, bezel and crown. The surface is completely matte, topped by a unidirectional bezel with a matte brushed ceramic insert. The graduations are obtained with seamless Liquidmetal technology and are executed in silver grey. For properties such as water resistance, the watch is equipped with a 5.2mm semi-conical sapphire crystal, which allows it to withstand pressure with optimal stress distribution. The same concept applies to the crown – screwed down, of course – and the case back. There are 4 patents pending in this case. As you can see, this watch has no HEV, which is not required due to the helium-resistant construction of the case. Online fake watch

The caseback is also titanium and screwed into the case via a two-part construction – the caseback itself and the ring used to seal the assembly. It is laser engraved and laser colored with the classic seahorse logo and sonar pattern, and the engravings on all watches will align. The sapphire crystal on the top is also newly developed and named EFG. Not only are the shapes unique, but the materials themselves have been carefully selected to be free of any imperfections to ensure no particles or micro-cracks can cause stress issues.

The dial of the new Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Titanium also clearly matches the 2019 prototype. Made of ceramic titanium, it displays applied and brushed hour markers and hands, as well as turquoise Arabic numerals. Note that the top surface of the central seconds hand has a gradient blue effect. The display is classic, with central hours, minutes and seconds, and no date interferes with the clean look. Note that this watch is ISO 6425 certified and this certification is integrated into METAS’ Master Chronometer test. The dial, like the rest of the watch, is completely matte finished to avoid reflections and create the gauge look needed to meet the specifications of this true diver’s watch monster.

Inside the case is the in-house automatic calibre 8912, an automatic in-house movement certified by the Master Chronometer, two barrels, a co-axial escapement and of course the usual Omega offers in most of its products Super magnetoresistive watch. The movement operates at 3.5Hz and has a power reserve of 60 hours. There’s nothing remarkable here, at least as far as Omega’s demanding standards go. Review cheap watch

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Titanium watch is worn on a black and blue NATO strap made of polyamide yarn made from 100% recycled fishing nets. It is secured to the wrist with a grade 5 titanium ring and buckle. This strap is exclusive to the titanium model and will not be available in the stainless steel collection – mainly because of the Manta Lugs, there is no other option.

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Titanium 6,000m is a truly impressive watch. it works? Not really. Overdesigned? Clearly. touching? Without a doubt, it is one of the most compelling professional diving watches on the market. Because of that, it does look cool. As long as you know the size of it on your wrist.
