TAG HEUER presents a new special edition watch of the TAG Heuer Monaco series (MONACO) to pay tribute to the F1 Monaco Grand Prix
To commemorate the legendary Monaco Grand Prix, TAG Heuer has released a new special edition of its iconic timepiece, a collection of the same name as the prestigious F1 race. This TAG Heuer Monaco series watch uses modern materials while inheriting a long-standing pedigree, becoming a classic and timeless work in the excellent racing chronograph.
The new Monaco special edition chronograph will excite racing enthusiasts and fans of bold and innovative timepieces – an exciting timepiece inspired by a legendary Monaco wristwatch from the 1970s Table in DLC-coated titanium. This luxury chronograph showcases the bold innovation of the TAG Heuer Monaco collection, embodying the mystery of one of the brand’s most iconic collections.
Since its inception in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph has challenged every aspect of watchmaking with its fearless innovation. In the era of only hand-wound chronographs, the Monaco was one of the earliest automatic chronographs. Unlike traditional black or white dials, the Monaco is painted bright blue (bright white chronograph counters and red accents make it bolder). But the fundamental innovation lies in the shape – unlike the tradition that almost all chronographs are round, the Monaco is square and is the first to have a water-resistant case. The name “Monaco” itself reflects the duality of the watch, reflecting the unparalleled luxury of the Principality of Monaco and contrasting it with the dangers of the legendary F1 event.
Since its launch in 1969, the Monaco collection has displayed a style at the forefront of contemporary design. From the midnight blues and bright whites of the late 1960s to the contrasting grey tones used in the early 1970s, the Monaco collection reflects pop culture while pushing the boundaries of design style. At the end of the 1970s, the Monaco series of chronographs naturally appeared with a completely different look, the legendary “Dark Lord” with a matte black case and dial. Featuring bright orange and white accents, this watch optimises the practicality of a chronograph as a tactical gear for racers.
Now, more than 50 years after the launch of the Monaco collection, the brand presents a special edition of the legendary watch. This latest Monaco collection incorporates today’s most innovative materials and engineering, presenting enthusiasts with an exceptional version of what could be achieved on the basis of the original Monaco collection “Dark Lord”.
The latest addition to the Monaco lineup, the case is made of grade 2 titanium with a DLC coating. Titanium is a high-performance material that combines high strength and light weight with a high degree of corrosion resistance. TAG Heuer has only previously used titanium in one Monaco chronograph, which is released as a limited edition in 2021 and is also used by Max Verstappen as his “lucky” watch. Worn during the 2021 F1 World Championship, it is now highly sought after by collectors. Of course, the use of titanium in chronographs was unknown in the 1970s, and Tag Heuer first used the material in the early 1980s.
This year’s special edition watch marks the first time black-coated titanium has been used on a Monaco chronograph. The DLC coating presents a deep, rich color, as intended for use as a racer’s tool, while the sandblasted case ends up with a grainy textured effect. At the same time, thanks to advances in coating technology, a durable black coating can be applied not only to the case, but also to the crown, pushers and case back.best replica watches
The dial pays homage to the geometric aesthetic of the Monaco collection in a new way, “outside square and inside circle”, consisting of two separate parts, treated in a contrasting manner. The circle in the center of the dial is satin-finished to express the speed and smooth sensibility of the racing car. The perimeter of the dial presents a striking contrast, which has been sandblasted to create a grainy texture. This grainy texture expresses the engagement between the tire and the track, allowing for an excellent transition from dial to case. The counters have a black opal finish that complements the dark red chronograph hour and minute hands.
The rose gold hands and indexes are another update to the Monaco chronographs of the 1970s. The shades of luminous paint used on the hour-markers and hands of the original Monaco “Dark Lord” watch have changed over time, but the gold accents of the latest Monaco watch will last forever. The deep black of the dial complements the gold of the hour-markers, hour and minute hands. The hands are also coated with Super-LumiNova® fluorescent paint, ensuring that the watch is exceptionally legible, day or night.
In addition to the luxurious appearance, the gold element is also a gorgeous link between this watch and TAG Heuer’s unique racing heritage of the 1970s, reminding us of Jack Heuer (Jack Heuer) gift to top professional racing drivers and TAG Heuer brand friends Gold Carrera Chronograph. The gold contrasts nicely with the matte black dial, reminding today’s enthusiasts that the F1 champions of the 1970s wore gold TAG Heuer chronographs on the track.replica watches review
On the other hand, this latest Monaco watch is equipped with the brand’s in-house Heuer 02 movement, which is also a major difference compared to the movement of the original Monaco chronograph from the 1970s. The beautifully retouched Heuer 02 movement uses a traditional column-wheel-driven chronograph function and provides an 80-hour power reserve, and the rose gold-plated oscillating weight can be seen through the sapphire caseback.
A timeless Monaco watch
The performance of today’s innovative materials and technologies, used in a legendary chronograph that embodies the romance of the golden age of racing, this Monaco watch is designed for those who need it. More than forty years after TAG Heuer created the first black Monaco chronograph, today’s Monaco expresses the fearless passion of the great era of motorsports in timeless materials and styles.
