Seiko Spring Drive GMT’Eagle’ USA Limited Edition SBGE263 and American GS9 Club
Do you like Seiko? join the club.
Today, one of the highlights of the year that is about to dry up is that Grand Seiko, a brand loved by many of us, celebrates its 60th anniversary. The celebration brought some very cool limited edition anniversary watches, and even brought a new Hi-Beat movement, the cal. 9SA5, for the first time introduced a new double impulse escapement system. This is no small matter. As my colleague Jack Forster pointed out: “Despite thousands of experiments, there are actually very few escapements that can be really widely used: edges, cylinders, levers and coaxial This has been in the watchmaking industry for more than five hundred years.”
Only on this Friday can we reach Seiko’s actual 60th birthday, which is December 18. Although GS has been attracting new things to its attention throughout the year so far, there is no major trade show to immediately abandon everything, and it is not ideal to wait until mid-December, but they did save some major news for a day itself.
As you can see from the photo, it includes a new 1:1 replica watches, the Spring Drive GMT’Eagle’ USA limited edition SBGE263. It has a patterned brown dial and brown ceramic bezel, and despite its neutral tone, it is different from most black, blue, red, green and orange sports watches that we often see in the past.
The company also launched the American GS9 Collectors Club. This is an exciting development for Seiko enthusiasts who want to interact more directly with their favorite brands. Collectors who like Grand Seiko-and I certainly include me-tend to be stubborn. Once someone dips their toes into these waters, they usually end up stunned and buy more watches. The club’s “GS9” name comes from Seiko and No. 9, which is a number familiar to collectors, and it represents many Seiko caliber names. Membership benefits will include gifts (with cool lapels); special events (currently online events, including planned virtual tours of the ikoshi Seiko Grand Studio, and live events where global conditions allow); and exclusive content , Including articles on Grand Seiko watches. Some of these articles are for members only, while others can be read by any visitor to the new site. Japan also plans to publish a printed magazine in the United States.
The GS9 website has an e-commerce component, the GS9 Club Shop, which will enable members and non-members in the United States to purchase watches classified as Shop models by replica Grand Seiko. GS9 members can purchase Master Shop and Salon models as long as they log in with their GS9 account. Watches classified as boutique watches by Grand Seiko may not be directly available for purchase through online stores; however, the GS9 team can provide virtual presentations and information, and purchases can be coordinated through the club members’ nearest Grand Seiko boutique. Although there is no fee for club membership, you must be the boss of Seiko to join.
SBGE263 has a lot in common with the three ceramic bezel Spring Drive GMT models announced earlier this year. These are SBGE253, SBGE255 and SBGE257, respectively, with black, blue and green ceramic bezels. Ceramics have many advantages, the main ones being scratch resistance and a brand new appearance after years of wear. I only have one watch with a ceramic bezel, and sometimes I use it as a protective cover for the watch. I bet you know this feeling: when you see the watch glancing from the door handle, you will say a prayer that it is a sapphire crystal or a ceramic bezel (if any). Anything except boxes or lugs.
The brown of this limited edition product is inspired by the color of the eagle, the golden GMT hand of the eagle’s beak, and the Spring Drive second hand of the birds flying in the sky. The limited edition SBGE263 is on sale online.
Despite the colorful and durable ceramic bezels, what really makes the latest batch of steel Spring Drive GMTs is their size. The watch you see here is 40.5 mm in diameter and 14.7 mm thick. One might say that this diameter watch is actually on the thicker side, but it does have a wearable appearance compared to some 44mm Spring Drive GMT options in the Grand Seiko Sport series.
Fans of Grand Seiko are already familiar with the company’s famous dials. Nailing the interface-you spend the most time on it and interacting with it-is one of the biggest differentiating factors in the history of the brand. Despite being a sports watch, these luminous hands and markers still have the diamond-polished beauty that Seiko can have. Creating this polished look on a sports watch face is much more difficult than it seems.
Water resistant to more than 200 meters, the offset crown makes the SBGE263 very comfortable to wear on the left or right wrist. The latter two factors are important because despite the size constraints and the neat dial, you still want this truly dynamic sports watch.
