Watches & Wonders 2021 released by Rolex
Although most of the discussion is about the release of its tool watch, Rolex quietly introduced two stunning gem setting works.
At this year’s Watches & Wonders, Rolex, who was exhibiting for the first time, introduced updates to the Explorer I and Explorer II series, as well as Daytona’s eye-catching solid meteorite dial. For ordinary observers, Rolex seems to be focused on upgrading its iconic tool table. However, after discovering the entire renewal of the brand in 2021, two hidden gems were discovered.
Rolex has long been known for its superb skills in setting gemstones in timepieces. The brand’s latest products are no exception. Each product’s case, bracelet and clasp are inlaid with hundreds of hand-set brilliant-cut diamonds. These are two timepieces worthy of careful observation.
Launched Oyster Perpetual Day Date 36
Rolex has introduced three new gem-set versions for its Day-Date 36. These timepieces are available in three color and metal combinations, each with 817 diamonds. The 36 mm Oyster case of each model-whether made of 18K yellow gold, 18K white gold or 18K Everose gold-is set with 254 brilliant-cut diamonds along the sides and lugs, and 52 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel Cut diamonds and 450 diamonds on the pavé dial. The results are shocking.
Discerning collectors can choose three colors for these new Day-Date 36 models: coral 18K gold, turquoise 18K white gold and burgundy 18K everose gold. Each piece has a matching color enamel fill index.
These watches are equipped with a 3255 movement made by Rolex, which has been powering the Day-Date model since 2019. The 3255 type self-winding movement is equipped with a Chronergy escapement and blue Parachrom hairspring, and has a 70-hour power reserve.
Gem inlaid Rolex Oyster Perpetual Women’s Datejust
The new 28 mm Rolex Lady-Datejust completes this year’s gem-set style, and is available in 18K yellow gold or 18K white gold. From the case to the bracelet, these models are almost inlaid with 1,089 diamonds. The presidential bracelet alone is set with 596 brilliant-cut diamonds.
The new Lady-Datejust watch features a fully pavé diamond dial, hand-set with 291 diamonds, and golden Roman numerals with black PVD coating. These watches are powered by the Rolex calibre 2236 released in 2014 and are equipped with Syloxi silicon balance springs. This compact movement also has a 55-hour power reserve.
